GrandLuxe Rail Journeys, (formerly American Orient Express) was in operation since 2006-2008. A private company, GrandLuxe Rail Journeys operates independently of Amtrak and the various North American rail lines, but works closely with these companies for locomotive power and access to scenic routes throughout the United States and Canada.


Unfortunately, the service shuttered its doors for good in August 2008, another victim of the flagging economy. A good portion of the equipment was sold to Xanterra for its new American Railway Explorer luxury train, while some other cars were scrapped
