on Conrail's Selkirk Branch (Mohawk River Bridge) in Pattersonville NY

Prior to 1978, Amtrak used this route between Hoffmans and South Schenectady due to the passenger
main (current routing) being out of service between Hoffmans and Carman. At South Schenectady
(MP 32), Amtrak would use the Carman Branch to reach the passenger main (at CP-156) to
Rensselaer. The distance between Hoffmans and South Schenectady is roughly 10 track miles.

The Schenectady passenger station (current Amshack) was not built until 1978, therefore, Amtrak served passengers at its "Colonie-Schenectady" station near milepost 149.
